Ramesh Chaurasia-Loss of Biodiversity
‘
Biodiversity starts in the distant past but it points towards the future' - Frans Lanting
It’s clearly and evidently known that biodiversity has been a primary element in the environment since the time earth has been believed to exist. Biodiversity is not just one element or item that supports the natural cycles which go on in the environment on a regular basis, but, it is a collection of the wide range of flora and fauna that is entangled with each other in mechanisms and functionality. It’s simply the existence of various groups of creatures in our environment that keeps the vicious cycle going on smoothly. Disturbance in the group of creatures at even one stage directly or indirectly impacts the other subsequent functional stages.
The Concept of the Food Web
The entire concept of the food web clarifies even the slightest amount of doubt that anyone may have about the cycle of biodiversity being interlinked and overlapping.
This concept has been very easily explained below :
For example - Creature A depends on Creature B to get its food and furthermore, creature B looks for Creature C to satisfy the food requirements in order to sustain its life. Under normal and natural circumstances, this cycle runs smoothly as the requirements are being met easily by all of them. Thus, there is no chaos created. Now, suppose, due to the rate of extinction going up of creature A, the species begin to fade away eventually and the situation changes so much that one day there are absolutely no creatures A left on the planet. What do you think the repercussions will be? Due to the entire species of creature A hitting, the verge of extinction, creatures B are consumed at a negligible level, and therefore, they begin to increase in number, thus, leading to a much faster rate of consumption of creatures C as Creatures B have now increased in number considerably.
Did you notice how disturbance to just one kind of creature in a whole vast range of creatures in biodiversity directly impacts the entire cycle?

This clearly proves how messing up at even one level or point will result in messing up the whole cycle considerably and the consequences are definitely to be faced by humans as well since we form a major and significant part of the environment as well.
Presenting solutions
Combat deforestation
The greens, which include forests, valleys, gardens, and other such habitats are home to thousands of creatures that are known to fall in the category of birds, insects, etc. Although these creatures are usually tiny, they are positioned to be extremely important to maintain the natural cycles. Destroying their homes simply means cutting off their species entirely. The repercussions of such activities are dreadful.
Saying no to products that include animal extracts in any form
It has been a common observation that since the past few years, organs and body parts of animals are being used to create products like leather belts, purses, shoes, bangles, earrings, and other accessories that are being sold at high rates that yield huge profits for people selling these. If we, as consumers stop buying such items, the manufacturing will have to stop anyways. Therefore, saying no to such products will eventually contribute to a ban being imposed on them.
Reduce ocean and sea pollution
With the establishment of oil rigs, underwater petroleum extraction plants, etc. the pollution levels in water bodies have gone up considerably. Other than that frequently heard cases on oil spills, ocean poaching, etc are also common nowadays. Taking this into consideration, we should not ignore the amount of deterioration caused by all this to the water creatures. Thinking of their existence we must take a step forward to reduce the negative impacts of such human-initiated activities.

Conclusion
The loss of biodiversity can impose such dreadful impacts that can hardly ever be imagined by us. The best way to deal with this crisis is to act accordingly in order to prevent it in all forms. Strict commitment and action are things that are needed at this hour. If not now, we will never be able to do anything but just regret the terrible happenings.
